life in manual

amanda taught me how to drive her car today...which is a stick shift.
she was asuch a great teacher but i was honestly pretty scared.
i usually pride myself in being able to multitask...especially when i am driving. i can drive safely while listening to music and talking on the phone and eat or textingWHICH I KNOW IS BAD i know. i'm just saying that i can. it is physically possible, haha.

so we started in a parking lot and moved to a small neighborhood off imperial highway.
i think my biggest problem was killing it after a stop and then trying to go again. it died. and died. and died. and died. and i kept forgetting to shift. amanda would remind me "shift," "clutch!," "BRAKE"..."GAS!"

it was definitely a sight to see. me jerking and bouncing around in this old car...hah.
we also got a lot of impatient drivers passing or honking. that's just a testament to the drivers of california. sheesh.

but it was sooo fun. despite the sweltering heat we managed to stick it out for at least an hour, probably more than that. i still feel like i need more practice before i am confident enough to drive on a normal road.

i love learning new things. once i master this skill i can buy my vw bus with full confidence that i will be able to actually drive it :)

listening to: take it from me
